To Know Elohim

Part 2 of the series "To Know Him"

I have stood among waterfalls and gazed in awe at it rushing beauty and listened to the sound of its sheer power as volumes of water cascade down a rocky cliff.  I have perched atop mountains and scoped the majesty of the lands around me as far as the naked eye could see.  I have lain in the open fields of the Midwest with only the light of the moon reflecting the silhouetted horizon around me staring into the blanket of a thousand lights above me.  I have nestled my toes into the warm sand of an ocean shore and listened to the peaceful rolling waves and my eyes glanced out over the shades of blue of the oceans deep.  It is all the handiwork of God.  The natural world is but a magnifying glass that reveals the mighty power of its creator.  The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. (Psalm 19:1).  Think about the sun and the power it creates.  Its diameter is 109 times the size of the earth its mass is estimated at 330,000 times that of earth.  The same God who created the earth, also created the sun.  There are stars much bigger than the sun in the known universe, but our Creator, our God created them.  We read in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.  The word God is translated from the word Elohim.   It refers to His power and His might.  The name literally means “the strong one”.  God is omnipotent.  His power exceeds beyond our finite imagination.  His power has been on full display since the beginning of time.  Before there was time and when time is no more, God’s power has been and will always be on display.  A power that by only the sound of His voice, what was not, then became.  By the power of His commands, the winds and seas obeyed and sickness fled.  By his power light shone in the darkness.  Land and water separated.  Trees grew.  Birds flew.  By His power, walls fell, a sea was divided into two, the earth shook, a day was prolonged.  By His power a nation was freed from bondage and a world was free from the fear of death.  By His power, the mouths of lions were shut up and a fiery furnace was incapable of harming three Hebrew servants.  No power exists unless it exists from Him.  Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God (Romans 13:1).  It was in a small shepherd boy when God’s power was on display in a battle against an oversized seasoned veteran of warfare mocking the cowardice of a nation.  The same shepherd who would be king found strength in God’s power in the face of a king who was driven by blind jealousy to vanquish his existence.  David’s strength was revealed in song “God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect” (II Samuel 22:33).  When we realize that we need to rely on God, then only by His power will we be able to accomplish the necessary things in life.  A preacher has no voice unless they have been ordained under the power of God.  A singer has no song unless they have been moved under the power of God.  A teacher has no wisdom unless they have been influenced by the power of God.  God’s power is needed to shield us from our attacker and to turn away his agenda.  Did you know that less than 1% of the water that flows through a dam is used to produce power?  Our greatest failure is letting each day pass without relying on the power of God.  God’s power is ready to flow through our lives so that we can make a lasting impact in the generations around us and in the generations to come.  Only light can impact the darkness and only the power of God within us can enable us to shine our light.  There is nothing too big for our God.  His power exceeds any force the world can ever offer.  His power is everlasting.  What do you need it for today?  Lord, grant me your power to have the strength to be victorious in life and allow that power to flow within me to give me the ability to make my light shine. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37).  It is through His power that we are able to be conquerors.
